The 53rd annual Grammy awards are over with some bands more victorious than others. It’s hard to say that one band “beat” another, or a band “lost”, because to make it this far is a giant compliment to these musicians. Words aside, let’s take a look at who was awarded (in the categories we find most relevant):
Album of the Year:
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
(Triumphing over Eminem, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga)
Best Electronic/Dance Album:
La Roux by La Roux
Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals:
Tighten Up by The Black Keys
(Triumphing over Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, and Muse)
Best Rock Album:
The Resistance by Muse
Best Alternative Music Album:
Brothers by The Black Keys
(Triumphing over Arcade Fire, Broken Bells, and Vampire Weekend)
Best Rock Or Rap Gospel Album:
Hello Hurricane by Switchfoot
Best Contemporary World Music Album:
Throw Down Your Heart , Africa Sessions Part 2: Unreleased Tracks by Béla Fleck
This might be mean, but let’s take a look at who lost:
Eminem and Cee Lo Green were defeated for Record of the Year;
Eminem also lost to Arcade Fire for Album of the Year (along with Katy Perry and Lady Gaga);
Justin Bieber didn’t win anything (Thank you, Music God);
Mumford & Sons, though nominated for two categories, walked away empty handed;
